Our business requires us to continuously work on our skills and keep abreast with technology advancements in the industry to be able to offer quality services which satisfy the relevant standards.

We do:

  • MAG, MIG and TIG welding,
  • Repairs and maintenance of large diesel engines,
  • Repairs and maintenance of large electric engines,
  • NDT of various materials,
  • Paintwork and coating of large structures, and
  • Pressure equipment inspection.

Welding

Our welding team are certified to perform the following welding processes: 111, 131(MIG), 135 (MAG), 141 (TIG) and 311, as well as metallization by thermal and cold spray.

All of our shops have technicians who are certified to EN 15085-2, Class CL1/CL2 '' Railway Applications – Welding of Railway Vehicles and components" and to EN 3834-2 or 3834-3 which attests to the quality of welding.

Eutalloy® SuperJet – A welding procedure which involves using a thermal spray torch to spray-fuse alloy powders onto the part to be coated, and which is used at SŽ – VIT to repair cracks on gearbox, compressor and reducer housings made of grey cast iron and cast steel, engine exhaust mainfolds, water tanks, and on pump housings.

Non-destructive testing of materials (NDT)

We have years of experience with various methods of identifying defects in materials, and we never stop building on what we have learned so far. We are certified to EN ISO 9712 and DIN 27201 – 7 for non-destructive testing.

NDT methods have particular importance when it comes to fracture mechanics because they allow us to analyze the structure of individual materials without destroying them in the process.

We do:

  • Visual testing (VT),
  • Liguid penetrant testing (PT),
  • Ultrasonic testing (UT),
  • Magnetic particle testing (MT), and
  • Ultrasonic thickness measuring (UTT).

Paintwork and coating of large structures

Our workshop in Dobova has a dual paint&cure booth, 5.5 x 5.89 x 43m in size, with a roller door to separate the booth length-wise, which caters to all your painting or coating needs. The booth accommodates both water- and oil-based (nitrocellulose) coating in low applications per unit of time. The average curing temperature is set at 50°C, and can reach up to 80°C.

While mostly intended for painting and coating freight wagons and other rolling stock, the booth is large enough to easily handle structural steel, machines and other large structures.

Repairs and maintenance of large diesel engines

Our shop in Maribor specializes in complete maintenance of large diesel engines – two-stroke and four-stroke engines, and engines with or without turbocharger. We have experience working with engines produced by General Motors, SACM, Jenbach Werke, Isotta Fraschini and Fiat.

We also provide re-engining of diesel traction, which involves replacing life-expired engines with new ones. Our work in this area has been with engines manufactured by Caterpillar C18, 3412 and 3508, Isotta Fraschini, Type V1708 T2F, MTU, VOLVO PENTA TAD1642VE-C.

Repairs and maintenance of large electric engines

Our crews also have the skills and equipment to service large electric machinery, including direct current (DC) or alternating (AC) machines.

The maintenance process involves the following main steps:

  • dismantling and assembly,
  • commutator processing,
  • welding the winding ends to the commutator,
  • re-impregnation by submersion,
  • stator repairs (including heavy damage).

We are also partnered to offer re-winding of AC and DC motors including vacuum impregnation.

Pressure equipment inspection

We are accredited by Slovenian Accreditation (SA) as an inspection body for the following pressurised equipment:

  • compressed air pressure vessels (initial inspection, periodic inspection, unscheduled checks)
  • pressure vessels for railway rolling stock according to EN ISO 286-3 and 286-4
  • safety equipment – safety relief valve (inspection of equipment settings and functionality)
  • portable tanks for carrying dangerous goods by rail in line with RID – tank wagons (periodic inspection of in-service tanks, unscheduled checks).
